Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is the foundation of most Western massage and the treatment most people picture when they think of a spa. Your therapist combines five classic strokes: long gliding effleurage, kneading petrissage, small circular friction, light rhythmic tapping (tapotement) and gentle vibration. The rhythm is steady and unhurried, working from the back and shoulders to the legs, arms and neck. The pressure stays comfortable throughout, so it suits anyone having their first massage or anyone who simply wants an hour of complete stillness after a busy week. Tell your therapist if you would like a particular area given more time.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage targets the layers of muscle and connective tissue that lighter massage cannot reach. Your therapist warms the area first, then works slowly with thumbs, knuckles and forearms, using sustained pressure and strokes across the grain of the muscle. It is the treatment clients book for stubborn knots between the shoulder blades, a stiff neck after long hours at a laptop, or tight hips and lower back. Expect moments of strong but productive pressure; you stay in control and can ask for it to be eased at any time. Some tenderness over the following 24 to 48 hours is normal. Let us know about recent injuries or blood-thinning medication when you book.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is built around the way you train. Your therapist asks about your sport, your training load and any upcoming event, then combines deep strokes, kneading, targeted pressure and assisted stretching on the muscle groups doing the most work. Before an event, the session is shorter and brisker to leave you feeling warmed up. After an event or a hard training block, it is slower and deeper to help you feel loose again. Between events, regular maintenance sessions are popular with runners, cyclists, footballers and gym-goers. Sports massage is where Outcall Massage London began: founder Harry trained at the London School of Sports Massage.
Thai Massage
Thai massage, known in Thailand as nuad thai, is a centuries-old practice added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019. It uses no oil and you stay dressed in loose, comfortable clothing. Pressure comes from the therapist’s palms, thumbs and elbows, worked along the sen, the energy lines of traditional Thai practice, before a series of assisted stretches opens the hips, shoulders and spine. It feels more active than an oil massage, closer to someone doing your yoga for you. Many clients find they finish it feeling energised rather than sleepy. A longer session gives the full sequence room to unfold.
Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy massage pairs slow, flowing strokes with an essential-oil blend whose scent is part of the experience. The oil is Aromatherapy Associates’ De-Stress Massage & Body Oil, which combines arnica, lavender, rosemary and ginger in nourishing plant oils. The pressure is light to medium and the pace deliberately calm, which makes it a favourite for winding down at the end of the day or before sleep. Essential oils are not suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant, have sensitive skin or know of any allergy, tell us when you book and your therapist will switch to a different oil or cream.
Hot Oil Massage
Hot oil massage uses body oil heated to a skin-friendly warmth, and your therapist checks the temperature before it reaches you. The warmth carries through each stroke, which many clients find deeply comforting, especially on a cold London night. The technique underneath can be as gentle as a Swedish massage or as firm as deep tissue work, so tell your therapist how much pressure you want. Choose it when you want the relaxation of a classic oil massage with the added comfort of warmth.
Couples Massage
A couples massage brings two therapists to you at the same time, each with their own table, so you and your partner are treated side by side in the same room. Each of you picks your own treatment, pressure and male or female therapist; both sessions run for the same length. Clients book it for anniversaries, birthdays and hotel stays, and simply to share an evening that is about switching off together. You will need enough floor space for both tables to stand next to each other.
